The new online
game, ‘The Blue Whale’ is definitely a killer on the hunt among young people.
The 50 day game, eventually leads the gamer to his ultimate death on the last
day. I know it’s hard to imagine the video gaming that was more of a past time
before, is now a virtual killer. The
Blue Whale has nothing to do with the world’s largest mammal but rather is a
Task game. The different tasks associated with the game are very gruesome and
endures physical hurt in the gamers.
The wonders of
the online gaming are getting thinner by the day and doing more harm in among
young people. The much feared Blue Whale is reported to been the cause of
nearly 130 deaths of teenagers in Russia between November 2015 to April 2016.
In India too, several suicide deaths have been reported recently, all of which
were linked to the Death Game. The game is played through various social media
platforms. The Russian Investigative Committee had launched an investigation on
account of the suspected suicidal deaths in Russia. As per them, the developers
of the game opened 8 group accounts on the VKontakte social network to lure
youngsters to play the game and eventually lead them to suicide.
The
perpetrators assign each player with a virtual administrator after they sign up
online. The administrators then assign the gamers with horrendous tasks to be
done over the next 50 days. The tasks are varied and horrific at the very
outset itself. All the tasks are self-harmers, starting with a self-inflicted
bruise on one’s shoulder, watching a horror movie, getting up at odd hours of
the night to committing suicide at the end of it. The players have to give the proof to the
online administrator, that they have completed the assigned tasks for the day.
The game is won by the player, when he/she commits suicide on the last day
which is indeed the saddest irony of the whole game.
